Shelbyville Critical Care Unit
24/7 Observation & Care from Skilled Clinicians
The critical care unit (CCU) provides specialized, round-the-clock care for patients with serious medical conditions. Learning that you or someone you love needs to be admitted to the CCU can be stressful, but you can take comfort knowing that this is the best place for a patient to receive the dedicated medical service they need. Patients in the CCU are monitored 24/7 by specially trained clinicians who keep a close watch on each patient’s vital signs. If any abnormalities or warning signs arise, our medical professionals can act at a moment’s notice to ensure the patient gets the treatment they need.
Why Would a Patient Need to go to the CCU?
While the CCU is for patients who require serious, constant care, it is not necessarily as serious as it sounds. Many patients go to the CCU after an intense surgical procedure so their vital signs can be closely monitored in case there were any complications from the operation. Other examples include patients with serious head injuries, require assistance breathing, or have high blood pressure and could be at risk of a cardiac event. CCU patients could require care from a variety of medical specialists, which is why our CCU team includes:
- Surgeons
- Anesthesiologists
- Pulmonologists
- Cardiologists
- Nephrologists
- Critical care specialists
We understand how difficult this time can be for patients and their families. Our team knows they have a solemn responsibility and are dedicated to providing patients with the high quality care they need to make a safe recovery.
CCU Visitation Policy
We have an open visitation policy for the CCU. However, it is important to remember that patients in this unit need plenty of rest. Visitors can help patients feel more relaxed, but it is recommended you limit your visiting time to short bursts so that the patient can have plenty of time to sleep. Also keep in mind that other patients are trying to rest, and speaking at low volumes is appreciated.
