MHP Incident Command Update
January 12, 2022
General Update: Indiana’s overall Covid positivity rate is 26.9% and the statewide hospitalization rate is the highest it has even been since Covid originated. Shelby County’s positivity rate is 15.9%. The omicron variant is the overwhelming majority of the newly diagnosed positive cases across the state.
Inpatient unit: Thirty-four of our 40 beds are full on our 3rd-floor inpatient unit. Today is the first day since December 11th, 2021 where we have had more than 1-2 inpatient beds available.
- We currently have 14 critical care patients on the 3rd floor, and 13 (93%) of those patients are due to Covid. Of the 13 Covid-related critical care patients, four are vaccinated.
- We have five patients on ventilators and all of those patients are Covid positive, and two of those patients are vaccinated. We have seven additional patients who are on Vapotherm or BiPap, and all of those patients are Covid positive and only one of those patients is vaccinated.
- Twenty-one (62%) of our inpatients are Covid positive, and thirteen (62%) of them are unvaccinated.
Definitions: “Unvaccinated” is defined as the absence of first dose, second dose or booster for Pfizer/Moderna or absence of single-dose Johnson & Johnson. “Partially vaccinated” is defined as the first dose only for Pfizer/Moderna. “Fully vaccinated” is defined as the first and second dose of Pfizer/Moderna or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson. Following the CDC’s guidance, a patient’s booster status does not currently factor into Incident Command’s definition of vaccinated.
Urgent Care and walk-in volumes: Priority Care has remained very busy the first part of this week. Over 45 patients have presented for walk-ins before 11 a.m. today. MHP Family & Internal Medicine has also had 37 walk-in patients register before 11 a.m. today. MHP Pediatrics has had 34 walk-in patients register today before 11 a.m. The vast majority of patients are presenting with Covid symptoms.
Emergency Department: The Emergency Department is averaging approximately 78 patients per day, and the majority of patients continue to present with high acuity.
